Five Typical Steps In Barbecuing

A barbecue can be as complicated as you make it out to be. You can take all day choosing the right meat for the occasion; spend even more time picking out the right side-dishes and sauces; and then waste even more time just setting up the grill.

But it doesn't have to take so long to prepare a typical barbecue. There are only a few steps that you should keep in mind and one of those steps is to keep it short and simple. Don't over think your barbecue lest you want to overcook it. Here are the short and simple steps for a typical barbecue.

• Buy the meat – Thinking of steak, pork or chicken? Whatever it is you want to cook, buy it in amounts that you need. You don't want to have too much leftovers after the party or else that's just a waste of food. An easy way to go about it is to stick with the things that can be grilled simply. You might want to stick with pork or even a whole chicken or fish.

• Marinate the meat – The next thing you want to worry about is the flavor of the meat. If you bought the meat a day before the actual barbecue, then this is perfect.

A marinade is best when it is done in long amounts of time and overnight should do the trick. Make your favorite marinade with different seasonings and spices. Then stick your meat or chicken into the marinade.

A marinade can also include different herbs as well. If you are cooking a whole chicken you may need to rub the marinade onto it before keeping the whole thing in the fridge. After a night in the fridge, you can then remove it as it is now prepared to be cooked.

• Clean your barbecue set – The next step is to make sure that your grill is clean. You want to make sure that the metal parts of your grill are spotless and that it is lightly oiled so that nothing sticks to it while cooking.

Then make sure that your barbecue pit is also clean. Replace all wood or coal that you will use to start the fire and make sure that there are no ashes left behind that can fly up and spoil your dish. Start the fire well ahead of time, preferably 30 minutes before grilling.

• Start cooking – Once the heat is on then you can finally start the cooking. Just stick in the meat that you want to cook and then close the lid. You can then sit back and relax while it cooks or you can choose to keep the lid open and watch what you are cooking in case you don't want any over-browning to occur.

• Prepare the vegetables – All barbecues need vegetables. This is the last dish that you need to prepare. You can prepare fresh salads or kebabs that can be heated on the grill by guests later on. Just make sure that you prepare veggies last because you want to serve them fresh.
