Foil Ideas For Outdoor Cooking

If you're a newbie to outdoor cooking or simply culinarily challenged, you may want to give foil cooking a try. Foil cooking requires the use of a high-quality and thick aluminum sheet that is less prone to tearing. If you're not sure how such piece will come in handy in your outdoor cooking session, check out the following things you can do with this amazing and versatile piece of aluminum sheet.

1. You can cut short your cleaning time. Face it, one of the downsides of any party or cookout session is the aftercare. If you use a foil, say goodbye to soaping, scraping and scrubbing. All that's left for you to do are to rinse the foil (if you want to), fold it neatly or crumple it to an inconspicuous ball, and dispose it in a garbage can. If you're out of garbage cans, use the foil like a mini trash bin. Keep odor and cleanliness in check by securely wrapping leftover food, bones and mess.

2. You can use foil to cover food and containers. Whether it's a tin can you want to cover for cooking or that casseroled dish you want to keep from getting cold while you wait for your guests, foil makes a handy cover and your guests won't even question you for your lack of taste. In addition to covering dishes, foil also helps retain heat so that your outdoor cooked food stays warm longer than usual.

3. You can eat from it. If, for the strangest reasons, you left behind your usual fare of cups and plates, do not worry. You can certainly wing things with the use of foil. While aluminum sheets are not necessarily as sturdy as the real thing, they can hold food. Shape the aluminum into a bowl to hold your sauce, meat and vegetable dishes, and your choice of finger foods such as nuts and berries. You can even fashion one as a cup to hold your beverage.

4. You can cook food. You can roast juicy and brown meat and fish just like the way you want them. Before you wrap the meat, add a tablespoon or two of water and condiments, and tightly seal the foil, leaving no air, then use a tong to hold it over the flame. If you're not a fan of meat dishes, try vegetables. You can steam vegetables using foil. Simply leave some air when you seal the ingredients in, and you will have a well-steamed vegetable dish. There are times when you may decide to wrap the food twice to keep juices from spilling out during and after cooking.

Compared to oven, grill or stove cooking, foil cooking requires no special skills and does not entail the use and lengthy manual readings of any complicated equipment. Tongs and gloves will come in handy. Generally however, all that foil cooking requires are care, common sense and an alertness to safety. If you want outdoor cooking to be a piece of cake, use foil.
