Four Ways To Make Your Barbecue Successful

Now that you have your barbecue party underway, it's time that you make your own checklist just to make sure that everything runs smoothly and without a hitch. Yes, you may have all the food prepared and all the drinks chilled. But sometimes it's the small things that will determine whether or not your party will be successful once it's done. So once you think you have everything prepared, make a short list with the following items so that you can follow through like a barbecue pro.

• Starting the fire – It may seem like such a trivial thing but safety is the most important thing to think about especially at a barbecue party where you will rely on fire to cook all your goodies. This is a great time to check on the grill that you are using. If you are a gas-user, check that the propane tank has no leaks and that it isn't turned on already before you strike that match. To make sure that the gas isn't collecting under the hood, remember to light your fire with the grill lid open first. You will not only save yourself the embarrassment from showing people you don't know how to barbecue but you might even save your own life among others. The last thing you need is to start an emergency.

• Barbecue from afar – When setting up a barbecue pit or your grill, make sure that you have it prepared and cooking away from where all the people are hanging out. It doesn't have to be too far away but it should be far enough that any accident won't end up with many friends being hurt. Also, make sure that the grill is away from any dry leaves and wood. As an added measure, have a fire extinguisher standing by.

• Control the fire – Yes, you may have a lot of fun cooking all that meat for all your friends and family. In fact, you might end up cooking a lot of it because of the delicious recipe you prepared. But what you need to remember is that fire builds and it is always a good thing to keep it in control. You can do this by having a water spray that will help you keep the flames down as the heat rises up. Also, when you are not cooking anything anymore, kill the flames and also make sure the coals are all wet before leaving the pit or grill to cool off.

• Variety, variety – Outside of safety precautions, you may also want to make sure that you are giving enough variety to the people at your barbecue. Sure, a barbecue is all about meat and a lot of drinks. But try adding some variety by cooking some fish and vegetables as well. Your friends won't regret that they tried something new like a vegetable kebab or a fish barbecue steak. Just the right amount of safety and fun will definitely end in a successful barbecue run for you during the summer.
