Not many people barbecue fish whenever there is a barbecue party in the neighborhood. However, it must be noted that it is the healthiest meats to barbecue and probably is one of the most flavorful if prepared right. This is where people tend to start questioning, “How do I barbecue a fish?” And the number one reason is that barbecuing a fish is just too complicated and can end up in a messy dish. With the right idea and preparation, you can cook barbecue like a pro. Here are a few tips to fish barbecue. • Not All Fish – The first thing to remember about barbecuing fish is that not all fish can be barbecued. The fact is that they all can be put on the grill but not all fish are best suited for the barbecue spit to begin with. Some fish that you can start working with include trout, salmon, and monkfish. Other types of seafood may also include lobster, shrimp and scallops. The important thing to note about fish is that it should be fresh. This is true for any kind of cooking that involves fish. But when it comes to barbecuing fish, the best results come from a fresh trout or salmon. Simply put, it just makes the difference. • Time Is A Factor – The reason that time is important is that fish does not take long at all to cook especially when it's on the grill. When it comes to fish, there is such a thing as overcooking it and the last thing you want is a flaky mess that you need to scrape off the grill metal onto a plate as a serving. • Oil It – Now you may want to barbecue fish with different sauces in order to enrich the flavor and it can be cooked for a longer time that you are supposed to cook it. One way to achieve this is to choose a fish with firm meat such as salmon, cod or tuna. Then oil it up and add some lemon juice if you would like before throwing it on the grill. Make sure that the grill is already heated up a bit so that the oil doesn't drip off before the heat sets in. It is also important that the heat you use is slightly cooler than the kind of heat you use when cooking meat. • Foil It – Do you have the problem of a dirty grill or one that is used mostly for cooking meat? If you don't have a completely clean grill then you can use foil. Wrap up the fish in sheet of foil before you throw it on the grill. You can turn up the heat just a little so that the foil heats up to help cook the fish inside. This is a great way to trap the entire flavor inside by allowing all the juices that spew out of a cooking fish to travel right back into the fish. For this kind of cooking, a great idea is to use lemon and butter to enhance the fish flavor. |
