Your next successful barbecue party is coming up fast and you might already have prepared everything for the event. But have you given any thought to just how safe the party will be especially since you will be grilling with fire in the garden where there might be dry leaves and wood lying around the place? Think about all the precautions you need to take before you go ahead with your grand barbecue party plans. Here are a few general notes on safety at a barbecue party. • Check the grill – Now, you may have a grill that you have been using tirelessly over the last few years, but when was the last time that you checked it? This is especially important if you are using gas to fire up your barbecue grill. Propane tanks need to be checked for leaks and the grill itself needs to be checked for any rusty parts. You don't want to be serving your guests dirty barbecue. Make sure that you clean up your grill and your pit so that it is safe to cook and serve your food. If you think your grill has taken too much of a battering, you may want to invest in a new one before planning any party. • Keep the barbecue away – Barbecues are always fun and some find it quite nice to barbecue meats together in groups around the grill. In any case, you will want to keep the fire and the grill away from those who are not near it. This will prevent any unnecessary accidents from happening. If you use propane to light up your fires, make sure that you do this away from the house, farther down the garden. You should also check that you haven't raked up dry leaves or piles of wood that may catch fire from the sparks of barbecue coals. Keep your garden neat and clean and you should have a hazard-free area to enjoy your barbecuing activities. • Keep children away – Children love barbecue events. It's the only time that they can get together with neighbors and friends and run around the house and play together. This is all well and good provided that these children are not running around the same area where your barbecue pit is. Make sure that you tell the children to stay away from where the barbecue is cooking. You will more than likely need to assign someone to keep an eye on the children if you can't do it yourself. • Keep the grill cool – Once you are done with your cooking and you want to sit down and enjoy the rest of the day with your friends, first make sure that the pit or the barbecue grill is properly extinguished. It's best that you move the grill out of the way so that children don't go around playing with the coals with sticks. So before anything else, let the grill cool down. You can use some water to extinguish the hot coals and flames if any. Once it has cooled down, move the grill to a place away from dry and flammable objects and then you can grab yourself a cold one and relax. |
